Follow up on PrayerWalking....

Hi all,
I just wanted to give an update on the prayer walking.  If you didn't see the original book review post, you can read it here.  The basic concept is to have prayer for an hour while walking.

I'm REALLY ashamed to say this, but when I first read the book, I thought what can I pray about for an hour straight.  Well, let me tell you, once I start my conversation with God, one prayer just leads into another and before you know it an hour has flown by!  It's amazing and wonderful.  I feel so good after having my time with God to thank him for all His blessings and to ask for help where needed. Give it a try, see how it blesses your day! :)

The author found that the best time for her to do this was an hour before her family awoke. I found already that I had to improvise a bit.  My DH has to get up so early most days, that it just wasn't very conducive for me.  So, I prayer clean.  Yep, after my husband heads off to work...I start my Flylady list and pray for an hour while cleaning.  If you aren't familiar with Flylady you can read all about my Flylady journey here in this series.   It's wonderful!  I bless my spirit while blessing our home.

By the time my DD gets up, I've knocked out a huge chunk of my cleaning responsibilities.  Then she and I go for our walk.  Then, I do a little yard work since I'm already dirty.  After that, breakfast, showers, and school.  Then our afternoons are free to do whatever we choose.  Woo Hoo!  My plan is to do this Monday-Friday, then take the weekend off for just the basics around the house.

I have to say that last week, we had a few schedule changes and it didn't work out so smoothly, but that's life.  However, I look forward to Monday starting the week fresh.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Book Review: "PrayerWalk" by Janet Holm McHenry

Hi all,
Lately I have really felt the pressure to take a hard look at the state of my health.  I am more than aware of the fact that I need to lose weight and eat healthier.  I also have recently felt compelled to keep a prayer journal for prayer requests.  Requests for my family as well as others and to also remember to thank God for all our blessings.

I recently read the book, "PrayerWalk" by Janet Holm McHenry.  This book is just the inspiration I needed to put both my spiritual and physical fitness in top priority.  This book tells of Janet's journey in how and why she began prayer walking and how she keeps the determination to continue when it is ever so tempting to just stay in bed.

This book is full of heart warming stories of answered prayers, as well as the tear jerking story of when she lost her father.  Janet reminds us that God always answers prayers, it just may not always be the answer we are looking for.

Don't worry though, there is some humor included.  I had to laugh out loud at this excerpt from another reader who wrote to Janet about the beginning of her journey to prayerwalking,

"....So I roll out of bed, excited to start my first day of this new way of talking to God.  I pull on my lined Windbreaker pants and have to literally squeeze into them!  Three months ago not a problem, but now my saddlebags are truly saddling!  Oh well, no one is going to see me.  So swish, swish, swish, I head out the door into the chilly darkness.

Man, my thighs are really making a lot of noise, but who cares!  I'm meeting with Jesus!  Swish, swish, swish...."Good Morning God.""

She goes on to explain how a neighborhood dog hears her swishing pants, which instigates other neighboring dogs to bark as well.  So much for her nice quiet prayerwalk where no one is going to notice her tight swishing pants!  I can just picture people looking out the window in the wee hour of the morning to see what all the dogs are barking about!  Hee! Hee!  Too funny!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait to begin my own prayerwalking journey.

If you liked this review, please feel free to rate it here:

I don't receive any compensation for your rating.  However, you do get put into a random drawing to win your own copy PrayerWalk.  The more ratings I have the higher ranked I get in order to be eligible for prizes.  So, thank you in advance for taking the time to rate my review! :)

Happy Reading!

Crochet--Red and black Scarf & Hat

 Hi all,
Don't ask me why in this Georgia summer heat I feel compelled to crochet!  It's crazy, I know, but at least we'll have some warm cozies when the winter comes.....sometime in December! :)

I'm working on a couple of projects right now that aren't ready for pictures, so I pulled out these two that I had already finished for Christmas last year.  I finally made a hat that DH could actually fit into.  Yipee!  I just used the HDC stitch and played around with the yarn.

I made a matching scarf as well.  I had planned to put on tassels, but I ran out of time to have it wrapped and DH said it liked it just the way it is.  I know he really did like it because he wore them all winter.

He even boasted to some of my friends about my handiwork.  I was so proud! :)

Do any of you crochet in the heat of the summer like me, or am I the only nut?  What are you all working on these days?

Have a great weekend!

Practice makes Progress!!

  Hi all,
I, like most of you I'm sure, have heard most of my life that "Practice makes Perfect."  I have used this expression many times to my daughter during school, or when she's working on her crochet.  Then one day my daughter asked me, while working on her penmanship, "But, is it perfect?"  I got to thinking that it's a lot of pressure to expect perfection.  Who am I to ask for perfection?

Like this crepe mrytle in my yard, it's not perfect.  It has this lone pink bloom amongst all the red, yet it is still beautiful!  God knows that we are not perfect.

In Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,"

Rather than put the pressure of perfection on my daughter, I'm going to encourage just doing her best.  That's all I can ask.

Like it says here in Colossians 3:23 "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,"

My daughter was watching an episode of "19 Kids and Counting," and I heard Michelle Duggar say something that left an impression on me.  She said, "Practice makes Progress."  I LOVE this!  In striving for and achieving progress, isn't that always doing our best?

So the new motto in our home and in the classroom is, "Practice makes Progress!"

Hope you all have a wonderful day!
Jennifer
